Excerpt: Karachi Stock Exchange 100 Index (KSE-100 Index) is a stock index acting as a benchmark to compare prices on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) over a period of time. In determining representative compaines to compute the index on, companies with the highest market capitalization are selected. However, to ensure full market representation, the company with the highest market capitalization from each sector is also included. The index was launched in late 1991 with a base of 1,000 points. By 2001, it had grown to 1,770 points. By 2005, it had skyrocketed to 9,989 points. It then reached a peak of 12,285 in February 2007. KSE-100 index touched the highest ever benchmark of 14,814 points on December 26, 2007, a day before the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, when the index nosedived. The index recovered quickly in 2008, reaching new highs near 15,500 (citation needed) in April. However, by November 22, 2008 during the global financial crisis of 2008 it had fallen to 9,187. The following is a list of 30 companies with the highest market capitalization volume and their respective weightages in the index and account for over 80% of the KSE index as of February 20, 2008: KSE began with a 50 shares index. As the market grew a representative index was needed. On November 1, 1991 the KSE-100 was introduced and remains to this date the most generally accepted measure of the Exchange. The KSE-100 is a capital weighted index and consists of 100 companies representing about 90 percent of market capitalization of the Exchange. In 1995 the need was felt for an all share index to reconfirm th... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1965945

Chapters: Auto Auction, Gametz.com, Goozex, Bidding Fee Auction, Online Trading Community, Call for Bids, Unique Bid Auction, Real Estate Trading, Online Travel Auction, Public Auction, Trader Media East, Auction Catalog, Bidding, Hud Auction, Victory Auction. Excerpt: An auction catalog is a catalog that lists items to be sold at an auction which is written and made available well before the auction date. Auction catalogs for rare and expensive items, such as art , jewelry , postage stamps , and antique furniture , are of interest in and of themselves, for they will frequently include detailed descriptions of the items, their provenance , historical significance, photographs, and so forth. In some cases, auction catalogs are key documentation for rare objects that are in private collections, and make up an important part of the libraries of students and dealers of the rarities. Each entry typically includes a "lot number" identifying each item uniquely, a detailed textual description, and either an estimated price, or a "reserve" price below which the item will not be sold. Photographs may appear with the entry, or grouped into a separate section of the catalog; for mass-produced items like postage stamps, the textual description may be considered sufficient. As a combined information source and "sales brochure", an auction catalog must tread a fine line between accuracy and promotion. For instance, any damages or flaws must be described exactly, so that buyers cannot be claim to have been deceived, but at the same time the description will typically include words playing down the bad points (as in "brownish spot that does not detract from appearance" or "faint crease, as is common"). Similarly, special characteristics are also called out, such as "one of only four known examples of this ...

Miniature Painting: Miniature, Portrait Miniature, Ottoman Miniature, Ar

Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Miniature, Portrait Miniature, Ottoman Miniature, Artist Trading Cards, Persian Miniature, Jane Small, Basawan, Palekh Miniature, Fedoskino Miniature, Mstyora Miniature, Kholuy Miniature, Wasli. Excerpt: The word miniature, derived from the Latin minium, red lead, is a picture in an ancient or medieval illuminated manuscript; the simple decoration of the early codices having been miniated or delineated with that pigment. The generally small scale of the medieval pictures has led secondly to an etymological confusion of the term with minuteness and to its application to small paintings especially portrait miniatures, which did however grow from the same tradition and at least initially use similar techniques. Apart from the Western and Byzantine traditions, there is another group of Asian traditions, which is generally more illustrative in nature, and from origins in manuscript book decoration also developed into single-sheet small paintings to be kept in albums, which are also called miniatures, as the Western equivalents in watercolor and other mediums are not. These include Persian miniatures, and their Mughal, Ottoman and other Indian offshoots. Miniature of Abraham meeting angels, from the Cotton Genesis, 5th6th century. The earliest extant miniatures are a series of colored drawings or miniatures cut from the Ambrosian Iliad, an illustrated manuscript of the Iliad from the 3rd century. They are similar in style and treatment with the pictorial art of the later Roman classical period. In these pictures there is a considerable variety in the quality of the drawing, but there are many notable instances of fine figure-drawing, quite classical in sentiment, showing that the earlier art still exercised its influence. Such indications, too, of ... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=928523

Financial Market: Trading Room

Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: A trading-room gathers traders operating on financial markets. RVS Trading-roomThe trading-room is also often called the front office. The terms dealing-room and trading-floor are also used, the latter being inspired from that of a open outcry stock exchange. As open outcry is gradually replaced by electronic trading, the trading-room gets the only living place that is emblematic of the financial market. It is also the likeliest place within the financial institution where the most recent technologies are implemented before being disseminated in its other businesses. Before the sixties or seventies, the banks capital market businesses were mostly split in as many departments, sometimes scattered in several sites, as market segments : money market (domestic and currencies), foreign exchange, long-term financing, exchange, bond market... By gathering these teams to a single site, banks want to ease : Trading-rooms first appear among US bulge bracket brokers, such as Morgan Stanley, from 1971, with the creation of NASDAQ, which requires an equity trading desk on their premises, and the growth of the secondary market of federal debt products, which requires a bond trading desk. The spread of trading-rooms in Europe, between 1982 and 1987, is subsequently fostered by two reforms of the financial markets organisation, that are carried out roughly simultaneously in Britain and France. In Britain, the Big bang on the London Stock Exchange, removes the distinction between brokers and jobbers, and prompts US investment banks, hitherto deprived of access to the LSE, to set up a trading-room in the City. In France, the deregulation of capital markets, carried out by Pierre Bérégovoy, Economics and Finance Minister, between 1984 and 1986, leads to the cr... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=4733351
