Chapters: Single European Sky, Renewable Energy in the European Union, European Union Emission Trading Scheme, European Union Climate and Energy Package, European Federation for Transport and Environment. Excerpt: The countries of the European Union are currently the global leaders in the development and application of renewable energy. Promoting the use of renewable energy sources is important both to the reduction of the EU's dependence on foreign energy imports, and in meeting targets to combat global warming. Germany and the United Kingdom however, are currently the only members of the EU that are on track to achieve the objectives set by the Kyoto Protocol on climate change. Share of renewable energies in gross electrical consumption in European Union countries in 2006 (in %).The Maastricht Treaty set an objective of promoting stable growth while protecting the environment. The Amsterdam Treaty added the principle of sustainable development to the objectives of the EU. Since 1997, the EU has been working towards a renewable energy supply equivalent to 12% of the total EU's energy consumption by 2010. The Johannesburg Summit failed to introduce the radical changes targeted for ten years after the Rio Summit. No specific goals were set for the energy sector, which disappointed many countries. While the EU had proposed an annual increase in the use of renewable energy at a rate of 1.5% worldwide until 2010, Johannesburg's action plan did not recommend such a "substantial" increase, with no concrete goals nor dates being set. The EU was unwilling to accept this result and with other nations formed a group of "pioneer countries" that promised to establish ambitious national or even regional goals to achieve global targets. Chapters: Nasdaq, Electronic Trading, Pink Sheets, Nettrader, Lightspeed Financial, Advisorshares, Taurus, Seaq, Cotation Assistée En Continu, Cats, Rfq-Hub. Excerpt: Electronic trading, sometimes called etrading, is a method of trading securities (such as stocks, and bonds), foreign currency, and exchange traded derivatives electronically. It uses information technology to bring together buyers and sellers through electronic media to create a virtual market place. NASDAQ, NYSE Arca and Globex are examples of electronic market places. Exchanges that facilitate electronic trading in the United States are regulated by either the Securities and Exchange Commission or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and are generally called electronic communications networks or ECNs. Etrading is widely believed to be more reliable than older methods of trade processing, but glitches and cancelled trades do occur. Historically, stock markets were physical locations where buyers and sellers met and negotiated. With the improvement in communications technology in the late 20th century, the need for a physical location became less important, as traders could transact from remote locations. One of the earliest examples of widespread electronic trading was on Globex, the CME Groups electronic trading platform that allows access to a variety of financial, foreign exchange and commodity markets. The Chicago Board Of Trade produced a rival system that was based on Oak Trading Systems Oak platform which facilitated E Open Outcry, an electronic trading platform that allowed for electronic trading to take place alongside the trading that took place in the CBOT pits. Oak Trading Systems continues to offer access to global markets via various software applications, including... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=3335817
