Trading Options to Win: Profitable Strategies and Tactics for Any Trader

Praise for Trading Options to Win "Johnston has put together a very thorough work on futures options, and many stock option traders would learn something from this book as well. I especially like his reliance on expected returns and probability to choose the best trade to make." –Lawrence G. McMillan, President, McMillan Analysis Corp. bestselling author, Options as a Strategic Investment and Profit with Options "Entirely different from any other book on options, thank goodness. I fall asleep immediately and without fail after opening a book on options, but not this time. [This book is] readable in one or two sittings with fascinating cases that really illustrate the principles. It may be a delusion, but I think I understood most of Trading Options to Win. Some chapters on specific strategies I will definitely be reading again and trying to use in my own trading." –Barbara Rockefeller, founder, Rockefeller Treasury Services author of The Global Trader and CNBC 24/7 Trading "Stuart Johnston’s Trading Options to Win is an intelligent, literate, and informative description of the many ways to trade options that also explains why these trading strategies work. Those new to options trading absolutely need this book. Experienced options traders should not miss it." –Desmond MacRae, freelance business writer featured in the Financial Times and New York Post In Trading Options to Win: Profitable Strategies and Tactics for Any Trader, S.A. (Stu) Johnston shares thirty years of trading experience to help you gain an advantage and improve the profitability of your trading within the options and futures markets. Unlike some books, which offer a single "sure-fire" system for turning a profit, Trading Options to Win examines a broad methodology and philosophy of trading that puts the likelihood of profits on your side of the table. Attempting to minimize risk, establishing a discipline for entering and exiting trades, and claiming a healthy return on capital (ROC) can be difficult in the options and futures markets. But with Trading Options to Win as your guide, you will quickly learn how to do this–and much more.

Beginner's Guide to Computer Assisted Trading: How to Successfully

Peter Alexander provides valuable insight, information, advice and guidance to the new or aspiring trader in either stocks or commodities. The title strikes me as misleading. Although substantial coverage is devoted to issues relevant to trading by computer, the book also covers many other topics which the new trader will find helpful as well. A more apt title might have been The Complete Guide to Issues of Concern to the New Trader. In the area of computer matters, the author gives advice on the choice of computer hardware and operating systems. He describes several popular charting software programs, with guidance provided on the features he would be certain were included in the package one chooses. He discusses various data vendors and data formats, and the importance of clean data. Various markets in which the new trader may choose to participate are discussed. Their risk and reward characteristics and other considerations relevant to deciding which market is best suited to the individual are covered thorouthly. The different types of orders that may be used in various markets and exchanges are explained and copious examples provided. Important issues covered include minimum price fluctuations, commission costs, liquidity, volatility, markets (and exchanges) to avoid, and the relative pros and cons of daytrading versus position trading. The author provides a basic education on the various types of price charting, such as bar charts, candlesticks, and point and figure charts. In the area of computerized technical indicators, he provides a concise, easy to understand explanation of most major indicators, covering their calculation, interpretation, and their use in trading decisions. The various chart formations and patterns are discussed briefly, such as head and shoulders, triangles, flags and the like. One of the chief contributions of the book is its lucid and thorough explanation of the development, backtesting and implementation of trading systems. Several detailed case studies illustrate the principles the beginner needs to know to pursue creating his own system. Sound investment principles are emphasized through the book, such as the importance of sound money management principles and the role of discipline. Comprehensive glossaries of technical analysis terms, financial terms, and other useful information are provided. The author's style of writing is free flowing, interesting, and easy to understand. His colorful phrases and metaphors are, in places, reminiscent of Elder's Trading for a Living. This is a great book for new traders searching for guidance and useful information in the subject areas covered.

Portfolio Management Formulas : Mathematical Trading Methods for the Fut

Explores two neglected mathematical tools essential for competing successfully in today's frenzied commodities markets: quantity, which shows the proper amounts a trader should trade for a given market and system, and intercorrelation of returns (diversification), which shows not only which markets and systems to trade, but how to diversify with respect to trading the right quantities for each market. By using these lesser known tools in conjunction with the more popular trade/system selection tools, readers will see mathematically how success in the markets can be achieved, and how ``success'' without using all three is most likely incidental. In addition, non-stationary distribution of profits and losses and drawdowns are incorporated into the discussions to expose traders to the highs and lows of commodities markets and how best to leverage their assets.
